Self Storage During A Removal
Posted on 28/08/2014
When it comes to moving house, storage can be a great friend, especially if you are concerned about the size or configuration of the new place. It is often the case that even if you are not downsizing with the new house, there will be certain items that don’t fit in to the place, whether for the size of the room that it is destined for, or the decor simply not suiting it. You will however find that having a decent self storage unit fairly close by gives you an opportunity to get rid of things easily and fairly quickly, which can buy you the time that you need to get other parts of the removal done without concerning yourself with these bits and pieces. Once everything is sorted out with the move, you can turn your attention back to the furniture or other items that you can’t fit in the house, and can figure out what to do with them. Of course, it makes more sense to do all of this before you move, because then you will be saving money on storage, and will have one less thing to worry about, but if you are not completely sure as to whether things will fit or not, then having the storage unit on hand anyway can be really useful.
Depending on your situation, you may or may not want to get the unit ready for before you even move, so that you can have it easily accessible at all times during the move itself. You will find that there is a lot to be said for ensuring that this is the case, though only if you can afford it! Having a rented storage unit ready to go and finding that you don’t even really need it, because there is space in the garage or something like that, will be a massive blow, as you will likely have had to put down the first months rent in advance for the unit! Have a careful think about the reasons that you might need storage, and pit them up against the budget. If you are getting one simply to have a little more free space in the new house form a couple of boxes, or an old table or something smaller like that, then it may not be worth it. However, if you have a load of stuff that you can’t get rid of beforehand, then you may well find it essential.
The location of the unit is pretty important to think about as well. You will find that it is essential that you direct your attention to the place that the unit is, in relation to both houses. If you put things in self storage before the move, then you will need to ensure that it is within easy driving distance of the new place, as otherwise the logistics are going to be a nightmare. There is a lot to be said for ensuring that you are not pricing yourself wrongly through this however. You may find that you can make excellent savings by simply finding a storage facility outside of town, as the rental prices will often be cheaper there. If you are clever with the amount that you will end up spending on fuel and the like, then you can make efficient savings on the whole, and that will be the type of savvy investment that a clever remover will need to make in order for the move to go smoothly.
